Google Nexus One – Veeery Smart

Google recently released its Nexus One mobile phone which has been the talk of the industry even before its launch. Before that Google introduced its Android OS for mobiles which was accepted with open arms and now the Nexus One mobile device. One would think that since the trends are moving towards mobile computing and more and more users are using their mobile devices to surf the web and access information they would normally access through their computers, Google wanted in on the action but Google’s real objective is not to generate revenue through the software or hardware sales.

Google’s primary revenue generating source has been its advertising network which has brought it to the top very quickly leaving other ad networks eating its dust. Google realized that when people move their mobile devices and the speed with which mobile devices are becoming more powerful, people will not be viewing the well known “Ads by Google” advertisements in the same way they do on a computer screen.

Since web sites designed for being viewed on mobile devices are scaled down considerably and are just only the bare essentials, Google will start losing out on the revenues generated through their Ad networks. Realizing this fact at a very early stage Google moved to acquire technologies which would help them achieve their goals in the New Year.

Google’s acquisition of Admob, an advertising network for mobile applications couple with location-based service technology that they have bought to provide users with a better more localized experience with the Google services is just part of the strategy to make sure that regardless of whether you’re on a mobile on a PC, You see what Google wants you to see.

Having your own mobile operating system and now a mobile device ensures that Google’s content will be pushed to users of these technologies. Now the battle of what services are being used is on. Yahoo is pretty much out of the game at this point which leaves the two major player, Microsoft and Google to battle it out for total domination of mobile based services. So far it seems like Google is winning this battle.
